Stories of Change

Across the world, millions of women and girls remain trapped by laws and practices that deny them fundamental rights.

Child marriage is one such practice - a violation that steals childhood, education, and opportunity.

Annulled Marriages to Transformed Lives

When Chief Theresa Kachindamoto (23 November 1958 – 13 August 2025) returned to her village in Malawi, she discovered a 13-year-old mother forced into marriage. That moment ignited her life mission: to end child marriage and ensure every girl could access education and build her own future.

Your support helps fund the transformative work of leaders like Chief Kachindamoto, who has:

  • Annulled 3,500 child marriages in central Malawi, freeing girls from forced marriage and enabling them to return to school
  • Advocated for legal reform that contributed to a 2017 constitutional amendment raising the minimum marriage age from 15 to 18
  • Subsidised education for girls who were married young, helping them reclaim their right to learn and grow

As Chief Kachindamoto said: "When we educate a girl child, we educate the whole area, the whole nation, and the whole world."

Empowering Indigenous Women: Climate and Energy Justice

Indigenous women across the Asia Pacific are on the frontlines of both climate impacts and energy transitions, yet are often excluded from decision-making processes that affect their lands, livelihoods, and futures.

Robie Halip, from the Kalanguya and Kanakanaey Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines, works with the Right Energy Partnership to develop Indigenous-led renewable energy solutions. Her work highlights a critical injustice: despite hosting large hydroelectric dams for decades, many Indigenous communities remain without electricity and face displacement.

The Balance Changes When You Act

The barriers facing women and girls aren't inevitable - they're built, and they can be dismantled.

When women and girls stand equal, families are stronger, workplaces are fairer, and communities become safer for everyone.

Your donation helps Balance the Scales for ALL women and girls.

“Freedom for all women and girls is not a dream, it is a demand. And we will not stop until it is met.“
- Jaha Dukureh, Regional UN Women Ambassador for Africa
